Ayumi Tsuwabuki (石蕗 あゆみ Tsuwabuki Ayumi) is the younger clone version of Lady Mayumi Tsuwabuki and essentially belongs to the Tsuwabuki head family. However, she is shown to be treated mostly as an object, being a clone, by most of the Tsuwabuki family members as shown in Episode 9 and 10.

Appearance[]

Being a clone likened to Mayumi Tsuwabuki's appearance in her younger years, she is a beautiful pre-teen girl with auburn brown hair and aqua green eyes.

Earlier in Episode 9 and 10, she initially appeared to be wearing a loose white dress and was later seen covered up Ren Kannagi's pink coat which he lent to her to avoid her from catching a cold that night. During Episode 11 and 12, she was donned in ritual ceremony robes, consisting of a white kimono top with gaping sleeves, and a broad red skirt that reached down to her ankles.

Personality[]

Despite her shortcomings, Ayumi is shown to be quite soft-spoken with a kind heart. She is eager to know more about the outside world beyond the Tsuwabuki's family mansion and to experience and create her very own memories, despite the few memories she was given in the process of being made into Mayumi's younger clone. This is under the assumption that she has been sheltered to the grounds of the Tsuwabuki's family mansion and banned from going out anywhere, as the precious ritual master (eventual sacrifice) of the earth-users' grand ceremony of sealing away the behemoth of Mt. Fuji, Zenon, every 30 years. In that sense, she longs for freedom and to be like other normal children. Her kind-hearted and gentle forgiving nature is shown when she evidently sacrificed her life force to ensure Ren, Kazuma and Ayano defeated the beast, essentially saving all of them in Episode 12; she also looked out for Mayumi when she was knocked out unconscious and later forgiving her when Mayumi herself apologized for her mistreatment towards her over the years.

Biography[]

Under the order of Iwao Tsuwabuki, Ayumi is created as Lady Mayumi's clone with the egg of next pixie king (the stolen treasure of the pixies) infused with her so that she aged faster than a normal clone, in order to be sacrificed instead of Mayumi at the earth-users' grand ceremony. The Tsuwabuki family was in fact one of the richest and powerful and had a legacy of earth magic users. They were entrusted many years ago with the duty to keep Mount Fuji under control because it was the place where a terrible monster was once sealed. Every 30 years, the earth-users must sacrifice one of their own to seal away a monster that their ancestors sealed long ago at the cost of their most powerful caster's life at the time. If the beast is released it will kill everything in its path. The earth-users view of life, repeated by several different users, is sacrifice.

Plot[]

She was singing to the moon near a park when Ren Kannagi found her on his way walking home in Episode 9, and they instantly became friends. Ren Kannagi essentially falls in love with Ayumi after listening to her sing and tries to protect her from the other earth users that mistreat her and refer to her as property. However, later, some Tsuwabuki family members appeared to take her away for apparently no reason and are shown to treat her as if she was a thing and not a human. Seeing the mistreatment they gave her, Ren managed to protect her then from being captured and both of them ran away, with Ayumi's final wish of wanting to go and see the beach. At some point, Ayumi herself revealed to Ren that she was the ritual master of the earth-users' grand ceremony of sealing away the behemoth of Mt. Fuji, Zenon, which she would inevitably be sacrificed during the process.

Once Mayumi Tsuwabuki and her personal manservant/bodyguard, Yuuji Tsuwabuki, intercepted and confronted them during Episode 10, it is shown how poorly the Tsuwabukis truly treat her when Mayumi's servant, Yuuji, grabs her by her hair and repeatably slams her head into the ground. She was inevitably taken away back to the Tsuwabuki family mansion, after which Ren's fighting was halted when Mayumi revealed the shocking discovery of Ayumi being the younger clone version of Mayumi herself. Later in Episode 11, with the help of Kazuma Yagami and Ayano Kannagi, all three stormed into the Tsuwabuki family mansion with the initial plan of allowing Ren to apologize to Ayumi. However, upon learning behind the truth about the grand ceremony ritual and Kureha's original plan of absorbing the beast's full power in Episode 12, all three ended up freeing the beast, Zenon, and aimed to kill it in order to stop the cycle of sacrifice for the Tsuwabuki family and to also protect Mayumi and Ayumi. Sadly, when Kureha Tsuwabuki is killed in her wrath towards Zenon for causing her sufferings and locked down earth powers since birth, Ayumi sacrifices her life to weaken the beast so that Kazuma, Ayano and Ren could destroy it when it tried to escape.

This led to extinguish the remainder of her life energy, because, as they figured out later, she had been created in a very short time thanks to a magical egg that belonged to the pixies. Additionally, little care was put into her creation as she was made with the intention of dying which meant her life span was very short. She evidently died in Ren's arms and with her last words telling him that she loved him, and him in return to her at the end of Episode 12.

Relationships[]

Ren Kannagi[]

  • Ren first met Ayumi when she was singing to the moon on the night he walked home in Episode 9 and was instantly captivated by her. He had shown his fondness and loyalty towards her as he was willing to take her to the places she wanted to go, though initially puzzled by her request, and also using his fire powers to protect her from being captured by the Tsuwabuki family initially, after witnessing the cruel way they treated her as an object. Though treating each other as friends at that start, Ren slowly fell in love with her later when he initially stormed into the Tsuwabuki family mansion to apologize to her for abandoning her from being captured earlier on, with the help of his cousin, Ayano and his older brother, Kazuma. Ren cares very much about her as he is later seen determined to rescue both her and Mayumi Tsuwabuki from the terrible fate of being sacrificed, by defeat the behemoth of Mt. Fuji, which had long submitted the Tsuwabuki family to a terrible cycle of sacrificing one of their kind every 30 years to seal the beast. Sadly, Ayumi chose to sacrifice her life to weaken the beast when it tried to escape, ultimately aiding Ren, Ayano and Kazuma in destroying the unleashed beast. Ayumi evidently died in Ren's arms and with her last words telling him that she loved him, which he also returns her feelings at the end of Episode 12. She had revealed at one point that Ren was the first person to have ever treated and shown her kindness, unlike the Tsuwabuki's mistreatment towards her, and mentioned that she was glad to have met and spent her last moments with him.

Mayumi Tsuwabuki []

  • Ayumi is the younger version clone of Lady Mayumi, with the egg of next pixie king (the stolen treasure of the pixies) infused with her so that she aged faster than a normal clone, in order to be sacrificed instead of Mayumi at the earth-users' grand ceremony. Mayumi treated her in a reckless way, viewing her as a mere object and never pausing to think that she might have feelings, just as a normal human, as being a clone herself. However, she is seen apologizing towards Ayumi as she lay dying after sacrificing her lifeforce to help Ren and the others to defeat the beast at the end of Episode 12, feeling remorse for the mistreatment she had shown towards her over the years. It was assumed that she has changed back to her caring ways after Ayumi passed on.

Kureha Tsuwabuki & Yuuji Tsuwabuki []

  • Kureha and Yuuji were shown to have displayed the same mistreatment towards Ayumi, along with the other Tsuwabuki family members. Kureha assumingly only viewed her as a vital part of her initial plan to obtain the beast's full power and thus, treated her as a mere object, being the precious sacrifice for the grand ritual ceremony of the earth users, similarly likened to Mayumi. Yuuji, as well, views Ayumi as nothing else but a mere sacrificial object in the Tsuwabuki head family, treating her much like an object when he grabs her by her hair and repeatably slams her head into the ground during Episode 11 when she ran away with Ren, appearing to him as her neglecting her duty and essentially leaving Lady Mayumi to be sacrificed in her place instead.

Iwao Tsuwabuki[]

  • It was revealed that Iwao himself had ordered for the creation of Mayumi's younger clone version, Ayumi Tsuwabuki, in the efforts to spare his youngest daughter from being sacrificed at the grand ritual ceremony of the earth users'. No doubt, he also viewed her as an object belonging to the Tsuwabuki head family, the precious sacrifice for the grand ritual ceremony of the earth users in his younger daughter's place.

Etymology[]

  • Ayumi's surname Tsuwabuki means "stone" (石) (tsuwa) and "butterbur" (蕗) (fuki/buki).
